I start by reading the room, not directing it. The nerves, the private jokes, the hug that lasts a little longer—these are the moments that make a wedding personal.
When a portrait needs direction, I keep it clear and simple. The rest of the time, I stay present, anticipate what is coming and give people enough space to forget about the camera.
Behind the camera
I’m Jenny, a Sydney photographer who still gets a little emotional at weddings—even when I’m working. I love the nerves before the ceremony, the hugs that run long and the way a room changes when everyone you love is in it.
I don’t ask people to perform for the camera. I help them settle in, give direction when it is useful and let the rest happen naturally. I want every gallery to feel polished, but never at the cost of feeling real.
